FIRM & PHILOSOPHY
French Norman Style
A study in French Norman architecture, this home is sure to please a modest family. With the perfect balance of formal and informal, the home is designed to be both for entertaining and living. Modern efficiencies include a geothermal heat system, with supplemental in-floor radiant heat; solar hot water; triple pane thermal windows; and 100% natural insulation.
An adjacent guest house and four car garage, salt water pool, terraced formal gardens, kitchen gardens and mature plantings grace the surrounding estate.

Stately Georgian in Brick
Guests enter the site of this home through a formal gate, passing the gatehouse and approaching the Georgian facade. Separate entrances are provided for the owners and staff, allowing for maximum flow and order on the site. To the right of the home are the stables; to the left, the garage which is connected to the House via a breezeway and walled garden. Though formal in nature, the spaces within are poised to allow for contemporary living, with more formal rooms at the front, and a large sunlit family room at the rear, overlooking the formal gardens and pool. The goal was to create a timeless and elegant, yet fresh design.
French Manor House
Modelled after a manor house in the North of France, which was begun in the 12th century and improved during the 15th and 16th centuries, this home is designed with entertaining and privacy in mind. The basic form, plans and interior details are typical to French Rennaissance vocabulary. After traversing the moat, guests are greeted in the entry parlor with its hewn timber ceiling and limestone fireplace, then escorted to any number of the light-filled public spaces on the first level. The second and third floors are reserved for a spacious and well appointed master suite, and bedrooms for family and guests, and perhaps some hired help.
New Old House, Middleburg, Virginia
This home was designed for a couple who wanted a weekend get-away that looked as if it had been built over several generations. The main structure is a salvaged 1860's log cabin, with a "newer" Federal-styled stone addition to the right, and a 1930's style stucco addition to the left. The central portion of the home is comprised of the Gathering Room with kitchen, and opens to the rear to take in the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond. The right-most portion of the house is reserved for a formal dining room and library/study, with guest bedrooms above.
Colonial Revival
This home was conceived one evening after a long day. The idea was to create a well-balanced and charming place to pitch to a developer of high-end homes. AFter the initial concept was drawin, we sought out historical precedents to make sure the proportions and detailing were correct. The Corinthian pilasters give it a sense of grandeur while the simplicity of the shape lend to it's simple grace. We will develop the interiors soon!
Townhouse Development
These Town Homes were developed as a study of English Town houses and Architecture. The style design is elegant, yet simple; Stately, while maintaining convenience and not being too fussy. With a painted brick exterior, the homes are sure to be loved and respected by both their owners and passers-by alike.

Ebenezers Coffee House, Washington, DC
This tiny building went from derilict and neglected to key cornerstone to the Nation's largest Historic District, in part through the effort of re-zoning efforts spearheaded by Gerald Forsburg.
Bauserman Farm, Shenandoah Valley
This historic "Century Farm" I House, built circa 1860, was added to the National Register for Historic Places in December of 2010 thanks to a client dedicated to preserving history and to our extensive research and documentation efforts. This has been home to one family for over 100 years, and will now serve to continue to grace the landscape for 100 more.
Cabin Renovation, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
This cabin had been used as a weekend retreat since it was built in the late 1970's. The owner wanted to make it into a primary residence by giving it a cottage look. Though not high classical in design, the basic elements of order have been used to give the cabin a new look, as well as a much needed sense of entry. The natural elements were carried to the inside, using locally quarried Virginia Soapstone and salvaged barn boards for the kitchen.
Gothic Kitchen Renovation
The Owners of this home fell in love with several custom pieces that a dear friend and furniture maker had in his showroom. We are thrilled to be working with Emmanuel Design Group from Dallas Texas to design a truly unique kitchen of one-of -a-kind custom-made cabinets and interiors for this home in North Carolina.
Photos of the finished project soon to follow.
Addition to Historic Home
Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
This home was a mere one room deep. One of the older homes in the area, our proposal was to reconfigure the entry to be accessible from the drive and add a sumptuous family room and ground level Master Suite. The addition would have afforded a private and intimate courtyard to the interior of the complex.
Alas, this project is only at the proposal stage.
Cabin Renovation
This small house being used as a weekend cabin kept everyone away - even the Owner and his family.
The proposal was to give it some pizazz and more functional as a family retreat.
A new entry created better access to the interior's Great Room. The tower houses the stair to the second story, and gives the kids a sense of climbing through the trunk of a tree to access the second story Bunk Room.
Victorian Kitchen Renovation
The owners of this
stately Victorian lived with a poorly renovated kitchen of stock melamine cabinets that came with the purhase of their home. Below are some designs of what we proposed. Implementation of the design is pending on other immediate renovations.
Historic Home Addition
This old Virginia Farmhouse was in ill shape when it was brought to us. By restoring the original features; upgradaing a few things here and there; and doubling the square footage with a new kitchen, Great Room, Dining Room, and Master Suite, the home now warmly welcomes a whole new generation.
The floor plan provides plenty of cozy places to enjoy the mountain views.
Master Bath Renovation
This master suite bath was dated and in need of a makeover. A sizable 2-person shower was installed to take the place of the dated whirlpool, and radiant heat was installed under the new tile floor. The owner, a woodworker, brought a 5' piece of African Babinga and wanted to install it in the 6' space as the vanity top, with one stipulation - to use the entire piece and maximize the view of the grain.
The vanity was featured in Fine HomeBuilding, February 2010.
Mount Jackson Town Gazebo
Modelled after an existing water pump pavillion, the Town of Mount Jackson desired a focal point for a new Town Park adjacent to the Town Hall. The new Town Gazebo is sure to be a destination in the new park right in the center of Town.
Dovecote, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
The owner of this historic homestead wanted a garden shed that fit the character of the surroundgin estate, and was reminiscent of an old dovecote. From a practical standpoint, the pigeon holes are purely decorative. The structure is heavy timber sheathed with cedar board and batten, topped with Eastern White Cedar Shingles which weather to a vibrant silver-grey rather than the dull grey of redwood. The shed is topped with a Daschund weathervane, a tribute to the owner's dog.
Summer Kitchen
The owners of a beautiful new "old" house approached us for the design of a Summer Kitchen to compliment the existing home and add a separate entertainment space to the Estate.
We proposed this small structure, to be executed in salvaged historic native Virginia Limestone.
